Middle School Speech Team (gr. 6-8)Middle SchoolSpeech Team is an academic program where students prepare and then present a speech at meets throughout the season. The Speech Season runs December and January. The Centennial Middle School Speech Team is a long-standing program that has been around for over 25 years. In addition to improving public speaking skills, Speech improves a student's confidence and is a great program to develop long lasting friendships and camaraderie. Speech is open to any level of experience. You don't need any experience in public performing to join speech! Rehearsals are in December. Meets will be in January. There will be meets in Minnetonka, Eden Prairie (Finals Meet) and a Centennial Home meet. Meets are after school with busses leaving around 2:30 or 3:00 and returning back to Centennial around 7:30 - 9:00 Meet will be announced in fall of 2026 and the rehearsal and meet schedule is posted at centennialtheatre.org under “Middle School Speech” More details about how Speech Team works can be found at Centennialtheatre.org. Middle School Improv (entering gr. 6-8)CMS ImprovImprovisation is likely to be known as a performance form that allows for audience participation, is based on comedy, and is only for the very quick-witted. Improvisation, however, is a truly adaptable art form that has proven to be an effective tool onstage and off for many different age groups and levels of experience. In other words, while it can be highly entertaining, improvisation is much more than "being funny." The tenets of improvisation - namely saying yes or accepting ideas without judgement, creating a safe atmosphere, and listening - have made this form important to actors and non-actors alike. For actors, improvisation is crucial to being in the moment and learning to trust your instincts onstage, particularly in auditions. For non-actors, improvisation is an effective tool for sharpening focus, evolving creative ideas, improving communication skills and teamwork. Fall Middle School Play: As the Phantom TurnsMiddle SchoolREGISTRATION DEADLINE: Monday, September 14, 2 pm! A hit television soap opera, “The Whispers of Scandal”, has moved filming to a new studio, only to discover that it is inhabited by a phantom, a former actor, who haunts the building. The Phantom falls in love with the understudy of the lead role of Julianna Sterling, and endeavors to gain her love by teaching her everything he knows about acting and attempts to get rid of the actor that has the role of Julianna, so that his love can be the star of the show.
